Haiti Action Committee is honored to post this statement from Fanmi Lavalas, the people’s party of Haiti. The statement calls on the representative of Fanmi Lavalas in the Transitional Presidential Council to respect the will of the Haitian people, and to ensure that there is security in the country before any elections are held. They also call on those in the police force who are honest to combine with the population to beat back the paramilitary death squad gangs who have terrorized the country. We hope you will read this message and circulate it widely.
Fanmi Lavalas Statement, February 2, 2025
Fanmi Lavalas salutes and honors the Haitian people who are suffering this wave of violence morning, noon and night.
Leaving the cancer of violence in Port-au-Prince to conduct elections in the eight other departments of the country is like washing your hands and wiping them on the floor. To quickly cook up a referendum for the Constitution without providing security for the population is like fetching water in a basket. All attempts to conduct a rigged election and a referendum will become a bogus vehicle to collect corruption money.
Fanmi Lavalas encourages its representative in the KPT (Transition Presidential Council) to respect the will of the people who demand security before the holding of any sham selection and referendum. “Zorčy pa dwe pi long pase tčt” – one must listen to the voices of reason. The people are the highest authority. We all are under the obligation to listen and respect the rights of the people.
All citizens have the right to live in their homes in peace, the right to go about freely, the right to eat, the right to health care and education, the right to prevent gangs from completely taking over the country.
Fanmi Lavalas says stop. Fanmi Lavalas says this is enough. Fanmi Lavalas asks the authorities to provide the police with all that they need to free the roads that are blocked and the areas considered “lost” to the gangs. In this way, the KPT, the government and the Haitian people together will be able to save the transition. It is possible. It is not too late. Together we can do it.
Alone we are weak, Together we are strong, All Together WE ARE LAVALAS
