This March 2010 reprint of "We Will Not Forget" commemorates the 6th anniversary of the U.S.-orchestrated coup that overthrew the democratically elected government of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. It provides a brief summary highlighting some of the most important Lavalas achievements accomplished during the 10 years when democracy flourished in Haiti.
Each accomplishment moved Haiti towards the full participation of its poor majority in the life of the nation. The February 29, 2004 coup was aimed at reversing this process. Aristide was overthrown not because he failed to change Haiti, but precisely because profound transformation was at hand.
We know that only democratic development and self-determination can truly rebuild Haiti. And we continue to support the grassroots organizations that, day by day, hour by hour, are engaged in that difficult and protracted process. We honor the hundreds of thousands who have died in the earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12, 2010. Haiti is all of us!
